Who we are

Black Chili Limited is a technology and security consultancy registered in the United Kingdom. Our website address is blackchili.co.uk. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a data controller under registration reference ZB483230.

We take privacy seriously. This policy explains clearly and honestly what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what your rights are. We do not collect data we do not need, and we do not use it for purposes beyond those described here.

What data we collect and why

We collect data in two ways.

If you use the contact form on this website, we receive your name, email address, and any information you choose to include in your message. We use this solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list, pass your details to third parties, or use your data for any purpose beyond the conversation you initiated.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this website. This collects anonymous data about your visit including pages viewed, time spent on site, and broad geographic location. We do not use this data to identify individuals. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking via Google’s opt-out browser add-on, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Our lawful basis for processing your data

Under UK GDPR we are required to identify a lawful basis for processing personal data.

For contact form submissions, our lawful basis is legitimate interests. When you contact us, we have a legitimate interest in receiving and responding to your message. We have considered whether this interest is overridden by your rights and interests and are satisfied that it is not, given that you are actively choosing to initiate contact with us.

For Google Analytics, our lawful basis is also legitimate interests. We have a legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used so that we can improve it. The data collected is anonymous and aggregated, and we are satisfied that this does not override your rights and interests.

International data transfers

Google Analytics is operated by Google LLC. Data collected through Google Analytics may be transferred to and processed on servers outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Google participates in and has certified compliance with applicable data transfer frameworks. For further information on how Google processes data, see Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

We do not otherwise transfer your personal data outside the United Kingdom.

How long we keep your data

Contact form enquiries are retained for as long as is reasonably necessary to manage the conversation and any resulting engagement, and no longer. If you would like your details removed at any point, contact us and we will delete them promptly.

Google Analytics data is retained in accordance with Google’s standard data retention settings. We do not retain identifiable Analytics data ourselves.

Automated decision making

We do not use your personal data for automated decision making or profiling of any kind.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

The right to access the personal data we hold about you. The right to request correction of any inaccurate data we hold. The right to request deletion of your personal data. The right to object to or restrict our processing of your data. The right to data portability where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us in writing as below. We will respond within one calendar month.

Your right to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office. You can do this at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling the ICO helpline on 0303 123 1113. We would always prefer the opportunity to address any concern directly first, so please do contact us before escalating to the ICO if you are comfortable doing so.
