Hey everyone, it's Alex! The internet can be an awesome place to explore, play games, and learn new things. But just like in the real world, there are some not-so-nice people out there, like hackers, scammers, cyber bullies, and online daters. It's important to know how to protect yourself from these dangers and stay safe while having fun online. In this guide, I'll give you some tips on how to spot these threats and what to do if you encounter them.

Online can be a nice place where you can do whatever you want, but there can also be downsides and dangers like hackers and scammers and I'm going to give brief details on what to do if you see these types of people and how to report it.

Hackers

Hackers are horrible. They will try to get into your computer to steal information from you. There is basically nothing you can do if you haven't given them any information to get into your computer. But if you don't want to get hacked, DO NOT give your personal info to a website that seems sketchy or dangerous. It's quite common sense but it's a good thing to know when you play online games or go on websites. Once a hacker gets into your computer, they won't leave until they get what they want, whether that is money, personal info, or something else. Try to report them or block them if you can. And always screenshot what they do so you can show the police.

Scammers

Scammers are just hackers that give you websites or links to steal your personal details. Do not use any links that aren't supported by the platform you're on or don't use https://. If you go on a website that asks you for your personal details, if it seems legit and safe and is from a company you trust you can use it. If in the search bar it says Not Secure, you probably don't want to give it any details. If it says free on it for in game currency that costs money it is probably a scam. Try to report them or block them if you can. And always screenshot what they say so you can show the police.

Cyber Bullies

Cyber bullies are horrible people. They will be mean to you online until they get a reaction like you rage quitting. And if you rage quit, they will carry on. Whatever you do, do not try to spark an argument with cyber bullies and do not reply to them. Try to report them or block them if you can. And always screenshot what they say so you can show your parents, and if it gets too far, show the police.

Online Daters

Online daters are usually found in 13+ games, sometimes in kid's games. They will pretend to like you to see if you like them back. They are probably 40-year-olds that think it's funny. Just like with scammers, hackers and cyber bullies. Report, Block and Screenshot.

How to Spot Fake News

Fake news is just horrible. It will say things like Elon Musk collabs with Fortnite to give everyone infinite v-bucks or Alien planet spotted. It will make people think things that are fake seem to be real. It is quite difficult to realise what is fake news and what isn't. A way to tell is if it's from a legit newspaper article like New York Times or BBC News. Don't believe everything you see online. It could be fake or could be real. Just depends on if it's from a legit source. Stay Aware.
